To my knowledge, there is no way to create a strip of LED tape in WYG. Would that be a possibility in a future release? I tried to use the LED Wizard and it would not allow me to enter in the dimensions of the tape I am looking to use. Any help would be appreciated.
We are hoping to have this in R42, due at the end of the year, but I cannot guarantee this yet. In the meantime, please post the requirements for the LED Tape you are trying to use and I'll see if I can figure it out.
The specification for this feature is complete and implementation was started, but then most development resources had to be diverted to 64bit implementation, so this feature was pushed to R44, due at the end of the year. In the meantime, your only option if you need to see actual LED pixels, is to create single-row or single-column LED Walls, as in a manner of speaking, that is what LED tape is. If all you need is a "glow effect" from long and thin strips, you could simply draw Surfaces or even just Lines, and use Light Emission to simulate this. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers, Dany
Unless you need to use renders rather then just exports of shaded views. In that case light emitting surfaces do not work.
It would not give you an accurate ‘glow’ as you would have with a real fixture. In the renders the surface lights up, but it does not actually light objects in my experience.
Thanks Floriaan. It took a bit of experimenting, but I see what you mean. I've passed this information over to the Shaded View Engine team, and they will check what improvements they can make. Note that this will not happen for the upcoming R43.
Hi dany, Please can you add an "autopatch" or "autobind" with the led tape wizard, because for my last project, it was a really hardway to patch 190 universes on the led strip... A patch wizard with the mode that we want to patch, straight or snake mode, with a offset by channel and by universe. For example, if you make an installation with many 2m led strip in 60pixels rgb for a meter: And for your installation you need to separate each universe, 360 channel for 2m, and then for one universe. To autopatch this, we need 3 settings : How many meter(or fixture) in 1 universe ? 2m or 2 fixtures or 360 pixels rgb What is the offset to jump in next universe? Like a custom increment but for the end of the universe and not between the fixtures 512-360=152 How many universe to patch ? (Create the universes) 100 How to autopatch ( depend for the installation cabling) Straight mode (in line, up to down, left to right) Snake mode Custom (selected) Ans the mast thing is to autobind the universes in artnet node or ma net etc.... Need the possibility to choose in the properties menu of the device manager : Which universe i want to start and how many universe to bind... just it s so boring to bind 190 u one by one.. Thanks!, this is my last feedback for my last project, hope to use again and again pixel mapping with wysiwyg, and hope this experience help you for the future of wysiwyg.. Cheers, Xavier
Thank you for this information, Xavier! I'm sorry to have to say that the LED Tape feature was pushed back once more (there is simply no time to develop something this complex, even with the work that was already done for it) in the two-month development window that we have for R44, which we are planning to release in December. That said, the information you provided above will help quite a lot as we refine the design for this feature (which is now scheduled for R45).
What is the status of this? I am still not seeing any glow on a wall in R44. Also led tape with different lens caps (opal frost, 60, 30 and 15 degree) are high on the wish list!
It is really important to have some way to make led strips actually light something. Right now the light emitting surfaces, don't emit any light. They just glow. So if you want to light a room with a couple of led-strips there is no other way then to use some bulky fixtures, that you are not going to use, just for simulation purposes. So is it coming soon(ish)? (As I do not see it in the R45 beta...)
On July 22 when I wrote my previous reply here, this feature was indeed planned. However, having received, over the summer, a great number of requests from our users for the addition of MVR and for a solution to export textured models from WYSIWYG, after reviewing our development resources for R46 development, the LED Tape Wizard had to be dropped once more. As such, it was not mentioned in the announcement we made about R46, https://forums.cast-soft.com/index....or-wysiwyg-our-development-plan-for-r46.1137/.
Hello, it is a pitty, that there are no working LED-stripe Fixtures. Light Emitting surfaces don't cause the admired effect. Best, John
