Few suggestions for the LED Wizard, I can't be the only one that finds it confusing!
I have to say, between designs, capture testing the BM drivers and playing around with the LED wizard. I have to say I never had an issue with understanding whats what in the setting panel you show above.
The Default to MM in the shape section maybe but the rest has never been an issue.
All you're really asking is for Pixel to be added before what they have already. And I could guess Pixel was left out to save space and clutter in the layout.
I rather fight for other features over adding Pixel to an already pretty clear layout.
But that's just my view of it.
I agree on the default millimeter point.
I guess what's confusing for me is that the pixel pitch settings are directly under the Panel size, surely they'd make more sense by the pixel size settings?
Well, units are missing. Pitch is measured in what per what? (pixels per meter? pixels per column/row?) Rows and columns are measured in what? Also the Specify by suggests an auto-calculation of something, but I only get it to work for one of the options.
Thank you for your suggestions, everyone. Like Jason, I also find it surprising that these requests are coming so many years after this feature was released. But that's neither here nor there, of course. I cannot tell you when these improvements are going to come, but they are now on the list.
I can only speak for myself, have been using Wyg since I was at uni back at the start of the century... only recently has LED become an everyday part of our planning and drawing process. It doesn’t seem two minutes since I was just plotting par cans on trusses. Now it seems every event has dozens of moving lights and a huge video wall.
That makes sense, Drew!
Very true DrewAVM, I recall using led video back in 2006 or so on a few tours. But nothing to what it is like now a days.
EDM shows has open the door on that completely, heck even a simple gala now has walls bigger than the shows I was working on in the 04 - 07 era.
I do from time to time ask about default video wall library items for some standard sizes. even made a few wyg merge files to do so. but it would grow fast.. 2mil , 3 mil, 5mil. and Video walls are the ever growing department currently. seems like 10 new models every year.
It was 2 years ago I commented on this post. and since I created my own common used video screen sizes and looking back at this. I do wonder if there is something to streamline creation of walls. But the first thing I think of is different ways to work with them and how you design them.
Wyg merge creation of Walls
Make a big wall then chop out what's not needed
Build per show via wizard.
Maybe some tutorials on how to renumber video panels, reinsert or resize images / video to build walls. this to get users on the right thinking path of working with the wizard.
Toggle units to metric or imperial countering the default setting of the drawing. (I do find if you just type in the units and add m/cm/" or ' after the number will convert on its own regardless of drawing default.)
Wysiwyg is growing in many ways. Is there a simpler way to input info in the led wizard? What info do you take from a spec sheet and rely on.
to me its overall size, pixel count in that size via column and rows, backing or no backing, weight and size of led pixel itself.
All that is in the wizard as it is now. minus the weight. but the weight thing is a bigger gumble due to the requirements of shows now a days and I know Wysiwyg is working on addressing that.
I would go route of opening door to requesting some basic type panels. i.e. 19.5" x19.5" or 22" x 22" with a 96 by 96 (a high med and low pixel count) library item and a system to have it self address as you lay it out or build an point and click address style layout builder.
Is the issues more of assigning layouts to the walls or is it actually what's being or how it being asked in the Wizard?
One day someone will go old school and be here asking how to put Par cans in a drawing and gel them...
Hello, in this profession every day we wake up with new needs and that is why we need tools that facilitate our work, wysiwyg grows like a snowball and many times you have to wait for the snow you need to add to the ball .
Having said that. My current need is to be able to assign a weight to a led wall so that in this way we can calculate the total weight of a screen, this tool is more and more necessary every day since the requirements of event producers require it.
greetings and keep waiting
It is something that has changed tenfold in the past 5 years, and as stated above I know Cast is working on addressing this but as you say sometimes it takes a little bit of waiting. over all weights is something that needs to be attached to all stuff nowadays.
fingers crossed for some updates on this over next few releases.
Keeping in mind that this downtime will change some of the release timings for features for a little bit. but can't blame Cast. No one saw this virus thing coming.
